The revised Overlander service will feature new coaches with larger windows, built at KiwiRail's Dunedin workshops, but will operate just three days a week with all services originating in Auckland.

At present two trains operate seven days a week from both cities. The number of intermediate stops will be cut from 16 to just 4 which will reduce the journey time by about 90 minutes. The new timetable will be launched on June 25.
