The three consortia are:

  • JHL joint venture (John Holland and Leighton Contractors)
  • SI-NRW joint venture (Salini Impregilo and NRW), and
  • Forrestfield Connect (Acciona Infrastructure, BAM International and Ferrovial Agroman).

The Western Australia Public Transport Authority (PTA) will now issue a formal request for proposals (RFP) to the three shortlisted bidders, which will now develop fully-costed proposals for the project.

Legislation authorising construction of the 8.5km extension to the TransPerth suburban network was recently introduced to the state parliament.

The new line will branch off the existing Midland Line, just east of Bayswater Station and with new stations at Airport West, Consolidated Airport, and Forrestfield. Most of the journey will be underground in an 8km twin-bore tunnel which will carry the line beneath the Swan River and the airport.

It is anticipated that a contract will be awarded to the successful bidder in mid-2016 with construction starting in late 2016. The line is scheduled to open in 2020.
