LATIN American Logistics (ALL) officially opened its new 120km line from Alto Araguaia to Itiquira, in Brazil's Mato Grosso state on June 2. The railway will carry large volumes of grain, and agribusiness Seara inaugurated its new grain terminal at Itiquira on the same day.
Seara expects to dispatch 2.5 million tonnes of grain per year from the new terminal, much of it destined for export through the port of Santos in São Paulo state.
Construction is almost complete on the 80km section northwest from Itiquira to Rondonopolis, which is expected to open in December. The Alto Araguaia - Rondonopolis line is expected to carry 15 million tonnes of freight per year by 2015.
