The 4km line, which is the final section of the Carioca network, will link Central do Brasil to Santos Dumont Airport via Avenida Marechal Floriano and Avenida Rio Branco.

Line 3 will serve three new stations and shares sections of the route with lines 1 and 2. The operation of a seven-minute interval service on Line 3 therefore means trams will run every 3.5 minutes on the Central do Brasil and Avenida Rio Branco sections.

Initial tests are taking place on Avenida Marechal Floriano and the range of operation will be gradually increased in the coming weeks. Line 3 is expected to open by the end of December.
