The tender is split into two parts, with the winning bidders expected to operate services from June 11 2017 until December 9 2028:

• Part 1, encompasses about 3.7 million train-km, and inlcudes the Ulm- Kempten, Pfronten Steinach - Kempten, Munich - Kempten - Lindau/ Oberstdorf, Hergatz - Wangen, and Buchloe - Augsburg services.

• Part 2, covers approximately 4.1 million train-km and includes Munich- Kempten - Lindau/Oberstdorf, Lindau - Memmingen - Augsburg - Nürnberg, Augsburg - Bad Wörishofen, and Immenstadt - Oberstdorf services.

BEG is aiming to offer a half hourly service between Munich/Augsburg and Oberstdorf and bids should be accompanied by specific milestones for improving operations. At present most services in the area are operated by DB Regio and Alex (Nitinera), a subsidiary of Italian Railways (FS).

The chosen operator will be responsible for rolling stock. However, BEG says it will offer financial support in future procurement.
