The closure proposals were drawn up with the aim of increasing green space in this part of the city, but following negotiations with Hungarian State Railways (MÁV), the government has now decided that Déli is vital to the future of the capital’s rail network. Only activities that are not directly required to operate passenger services will now be removed from the site.

Transferring services to Kelenföld was deemed to be unreliable because additional capacity will be required at the station to accommodate planned high-frequency suburban services and additional traffic which will be generated by a new central hospital next to the station.
