Ballast Nedam says the fully-automated system is developed from those it has already supplied to German Rail (DB) and sprays the entire underside of the train with warm water. The amount of water applied to each wheelset varies according to the degree of ice accumulation.

The modular system will be manufactured in the Netherlands and Sweden in collaboration with Ballast Nedam's Swedish partner AWI Maskin, which will install the equipment this December. Ballast Nedam will maintain the system for at least two years after delivery.
