The Hryvnia 498m ($US 17m) project involved laying 4km of additional track, including a short non-electrified branch to a two-platform terminus station near Borysil Terminal D. The project also included the construction of a 272m-long overpass to carry the line over the M03 Kiev - Kharkiv highway.

Kiev-Boryspil Express services operate every hour off-peak and half-hourly at peak times using a dedicated fleet of Pesa single-car DMUs, which were specially adapted for the airport line at UZ’s Grechany workshops. Each train accommodates 120 passengers and is equipped with additional luggage racks.

The one-way fare is Hryvnia 80 and the route is being used as a testbed for contactless fare collection systems.

At Kiev Pasazhyrskyi station, platform 14 has been upgraded for airport express services and two waiting rooms have been set up with televisions, Wi-Fi, sockets for charging mobile devices, and a play area.
