From next summer, travel on all buses, Luxembourg Railways (CFL) services and the Luxtram light rail network will be free-of-charge.

Fares are currently capped at a maximum of €2 for all journeys of less than two hours, which covers almost all public transport trips made within the country’s borders. Free public transport has already been introduced for people under the age of 20.

The initiative will be partly funded by the abolition of a tax break for commuters.

Around 400,000 people a day commute into Luxembourg City, and around 200,000 people a day cross the border from neighbouring France, Belgium and Germany.
