EUROPE’s Rail Joint Undertaking (ERJU) has appointed Mr Giorgio Travaini as its new executive director. He was previously interim and acting executive director and has spent 18 years working in the transport sector.

ERJU’s governing board says Travaini’s comprehensive understanding of the organisation’s operations qualifies him to steer it effectively, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and fostering collaborative research and innovation partnerships across Europe.

Travaini will take on responsibility for overseeing ERJU, cultivating relationships with stakeholders and driving initiatives aimed at accelerating the development and adoption of new rail technology.

“The European rail sector stands at a pivotal juncture, with unprecedented opportunities to enhance mobility, mitigate carbon emissions, and foster economic growth,” says Travaini.

“I am eager to work with our dedicated team and members, driving ERJU towards focused R&I that can deliver sustainable transport for our society, ensuring our efforts leave a lasting positive impact."
