Niederbarnimer Railway (NEB) placed a €27m order for seven two-car and two three-car trains in September 2013.

The new trains are being used by NEB on services from Berlin-Ostkreuz/Lichtenberg to Templin, Werneuchen, Rheinsberg and Kostrzyn (Poland). They are certified to operate on both the German and Polish rail networks and are suitable for use on cross-border routes. Link trains have been in service with operators in Poland and the Czech Republic since 2012.

In 2014, Rolls-Royce, which encompasses MTU, agreed with Pesa to supply up to 940 MTU PowerPacks for Link DMUs. These trains are scheduled to go into service over the next few years.

All Link models are fitted with MTU drive systems, and the one and three-car trains have one and two PowerPacks respectively, each based on type 12V 1600 R70 engines rated at 565kW.
