Construction of the 2.8km single-track extension, which includes an intermediate station Diepoltsdorf, was completed in less than a year. The €14m project was funded by the provinces of Upper Austria and Salzburg and the municipalities of Haigermoos, Ostermiething, and St Pantaleon.

In common with the existing SLB network, the line is electrified at 1kV dc and is expected to boost ridership by around 80,000 passengers per year.

The line is served by hourly S11 services from Ostermiething to Bürmoos, which connect with S1 services to Salzburg to provide a 45-minute journey time between the new terminus and Salzburg city centre. However, direct half-hourly peak services operate between Ostermiething and Salzburg on weekdays.
