Windhoff, and consortium partner Dräger, a specialist in medical and safety technology, will now deliver six trains to SBB by the end of 2018.
The new trains will be based in Zürich, Biel and Olten, taking the total number of LRZs in service with SBB to 17.
Each train includes at least one rail rescue vehicle, an equipment car, and a firefighting car. The 100km/h LRZ 18 can haul up to 1600-tonnes, and is equipped with an independent air supply system.
Up to 60 people can be carried on each train in the event of an emergency.
