The Stockholm - Malmö - Zell am See service will operate for six weeks between February and March next year, travelling via the Danish towns of Høje-Taastrup, Odense and Kolding. A place in a standard six-berth compartment will cost SKr 2500 ($US 268) per passenger. The announcement comes as the operator postpones the launch of its revised Malmö - Berlin service until summer 2021.
The train will depart Stockholm Central at 10.00 Friday, and Malmö at 15.20, arriving in Zell am See on Saturday morning. Return trains will depart Saturday evening, arriving in Malmö at 13.15 on Sunday and in Stockholm at 18.50.
In addition to Zell am See, the service will provide connections to eight additional ski resorts: Obertauern, Hinterglemm, Wagrain, Bad Gastein, Ischgl, St. Anton, Solden, and Schladming.
The service is intended to be a more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional air travel and will be operated entirely with energy purchased from renewable sources.
Coaches consist exclusively of 10 six-berth couchette compartments, with two toilet facilities per coach. Luggage space is provided in cabins. However additional storage for ski equipment may be purchased separately. Wi-Fi will also be available, and all compartments come equipped with USB sockets for charging devices.
The train includes a dining car with seating for 40 people, where tables may be booked in advance. Breakfast, drinks and snacks may also be available for delivery to compartments.
Tickets will be sold in partnership with ski tour operator Skinetworks, which owns travel companies Nortlander and Slopetrotter.
