The project in Ukraine includes the electrification of the branch to Volodymyr-Volynski as well as its bypass. It is expected to be completed in two years.

Following completion of the electrification project, Ukrainian Railways (UZ) will benefit from reduced transport costs on the line, which accounts for about 90% of rail traffic between Ukraine and Poland. UZ will also no longer need to replace electric locomotives with diesels at Kovel and reduce the weight of freight trains.

In the short-term, UZ will transfer class 2TE116 twin-section 4.5MW freight locomotives to Kovel depot in order to replace 2.9MW class 2M62U locomotives used to transfer freight trains from Kovel to Hrubieszow.
