The new plant will manufacture metro trains for Boston's Orange and Red lines as well as future CRRC orders in the United States. Over 100 construction jobs will be created during the construction process which involves refurbishing the former Westinghouse building on the site and building a new facility to manufacture rail vehicles.

Around 150 employees will work at the plant when it is opens in spring 2018. Construction is due to get underway in spring 2016 and be completed by autumn 2017.

CRRC secured a $US 566m contract from the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority to design and manufacture 152 Orange and 132 Red Line vehicles in October 2014. The new trains will replace vehicles that are more than 30-years-old with the first sets expected to be completed in January 2019.

"We have an exciting road ahead and we embrace this opportunity to partner with Massachusetts on our first transport project in the United States," Yu says.
