The contract with Marta, which is worth more than $US 600m, is Stadler’s first order for metro trains in the United States and the largest order by vehicle volume in the company’s history.

The 750V dc third rail type CQ400 trains will be married pairs of two vehicles. Each 45.7m-long set will seat 128 passengers and the trains will be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The CQ400s will feature passenger Wi-Fi, power sockets for electronic devices, LED lighting, and large luggage racks for services to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Assembly will take place at Stadler’s plant in Salt Lake City, Utah, with the first trains due to enter service in 2023. The deal includes two options, each for 25 additional trains.

Marta launched tenders for the contract in August 2016.
