Octa says four firms met prequalification requirements and submitted bids to build the line from Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center to Harbor Boulevard in Garden Grove using part of a former Pacific Electric Railway alignment.

The line is due to open in 2021 and is forecast to carry 7300 passengers per day in the first year of operation.

The $US 407m project is being funded through a combination of federal and state sources as well as Measure M, Orange County’s half-cent sales tax for transport improvements.

In March Octa selected Siemens for a $US 51.5m contract to supply eight low-floor LRVs for the project.
