According to the Globe and Mail newspaper, the province and regional transport authority STM will establish a project office with a $C 38.8m budget, which will be used to begin planning with the aim of starting construction within two years.

The 6.2km extension will run east from the existing Blue Line terminus at Saint-Michel with five new stations.

Proposals for the project have existed in various forms for almost 40 years, and the scheme was last put forward for implementation in 2009 by the government of then-Premier Mr Jean Charest.
