ABB says oil volume in a transformer can be reduced by 70% - equivalent of 20% of the weight of the unit - if it is concentrated around the windings where it is needed. By reducing oil weight, the weight of copper in the transformer can be increased to improve efficiency.
Effilight is available in 15kV 16.7 Hz and 25kV 50Hz configurations with steel or aluminium tanks and is suitable for underfloor, engine room or roof mounting.
The modular design means the active part of the unit is independent of the mountings, simplifying removal from the vehicle, and Efflight has the same mounting configuration as existing transformers.
