RGB is a subsidiary of Greater Braunschweig Functional Association (ZGB) which is pursuing its Regional Train Concept 2014 of which the Eastern Lower Saxony Electric Network is one of the most important elements.

The objectives include 30-minute-interval train services on all routes during peak hours, better coordination of bus and rail services, modernisation of stations, introduction of a dynamic passenger information system, and a fleet of modern trains. €65m will be invested to upgrade track and stations and build new stations.

The 160km/h Coradia trains, each of which can accommodate 450 passengers, are due to enter service in December 2015. The state of Lower Saxony is funding the order.
