The order is being financed by the Brittany region and is an option on a contract signed in 2010 for up to 860 trains for the French regions. So far 10 regions have ordered a total of 213 Regio 2N trains.
Delivery of the new trains is scheduled for 2019 and they will increase Brittany's fleet to 14 eight-car and seven six-car trains. It is the second option to order new trains exercised by Brittany: in April 2015 it ordered a further 10 Regio 2Ns to add to the 17 it initially acquired.
