DB intends to complete the work by January 2017. New mobile phone repeaters are also being fitted.
DB has selected equipment provided by Icomera, Sweden, which will enable the trains to not only handle substantially more data than at present (Wi-Fi access in second class will be provided free of charge) but also to act as mobile phone data and voice repeaters for multiple phone/data service providers simultaneously.
Trains equipped with the new enhanced WLAN eqipment will be identifiable by special branding adjacent to the passenger doors.
