Regulation EMV 06, which came into effect on July 29, covers radio contact between rail vehicles and trackside infrastructure and crucially places conditions and demands on vehicles that have already been granted authorisation to place in service (APS) by the Federal Railway Authority (EBA).

The rules aim to ensure secure and reliable operation of safety critical systems, in particular communication systems such as the German Zugfunk system, data radio (for systems such as ETCS), shunting radio, radio remote control of locomotives, and remote warning and diagnostics systems.
