The new trains will operate regional services on the 55km Szombathely - Szentgotthárd line in western Hungary, which GySEV took over from Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) in 2006. GySEV completed the electrification and upgrading of the line last year and currently uses locomotive-haulage for regional services.

The company first tendered for new trains in 2011 without success, and in the second round of tendering only Stadler submitted a bid.

GySEV has not disclosed what type of vehicles it has selected, although it is likely they will be similar or identical to the four-car class 5341 sets (pictured), 60 of which were delivered to MÁV-Start in 2007-10.
