The total value of the contract is €273.9m which covers the 15-year lease term, residual value of the assets at the end of the lease, spare parts, and maintenace equipment. The contract is still to be approved by the Latvian ministry of transport.

PV received two other bids from Pesa and Hyundai-Rotem, although it says Pesa did not submit a final offer and the Hyundai-Rotem bid was rejected because it failed to comply with the conditions of the tender.

PV says the first trains will enter service in the first quarter of 2016.

The 25kV ac EMUswill be used on Riga – Jelgava and Riga – Sloka – Tukums services. These lines are currently electrified at 3.3kV dc but are being converted to 25kV as part of LDZ's national electrification programme.
