The contract includes approximately $US 180m for 72 new cars and $US 60m to refurbish 350 existing cars in the Path fleet. The new PA-5 stainless-steel cars will be delivered in 2021 and 2022 while the 350 PA-5s already operating will be refitted by 2024.

Kawasaki secured its first order with the Port Authority’s Path system in 1984 for the subway cars that were replaced by the PA-5 model in the last few years. Path operates a 22km metro network linking Newark, Hoboken and Manhattan.
