The work will ensure the vehicles comply with Swiss legislation on passengers with reduced mobility. LED lighting will be installed and power sockets will be integrated into tables. Emergency systems will be upgraded and the vehicles will receive new carpets and upholstery. The restaurant cars will be modernised and the business zone will be expanded.

Each vehicle will also receive a full exterior repaint as part of the work, which will be carried out at SBB’s workshops in Olten between 2019 and 2024.

The push-pull IC2000 trains are the backbone of SBB’s inter-city fleet and are used on a number of domestic long-distance routes including Geneva - Bern - St Gallen, Romanshorn - Zürich - Brig, and Basel - Bern - Spiez - Interlaken.
