The trains will be equipped with an electric drive system and will take power from an energy storage system which could be stationary. The design of the drive system, including the power supply and energy storage requirements, will be subject to negotiation.

Based on the current vehicle specification with each car seating 125 passengers, around 52 vehicles are required with provision for additional trains to accommodate traffic growth. Delivery of the fleet is due to take place between 2021 and 2024 and the supplier will maintain the trains for a minimum of 19 years.

NAH.SH is considering whether the manufacturer should be included in the vehicle financing, and Schleswig-Holstein may issue a debt service guarantee to facilitate financing.

The vehicles will be provided for the duration of contracts for the operation of local rail passenger services.

NAH.SH reserves the right to establish an asset-holding company or appoint a leasing company or existing national company, which would own the vehicles.
