The programme will enable the trains to operate on the new Stuttgart (Wendlingen) - Ulm high-speed line and on the Belgian network. The trains will also operate using ETCS on the Paris - Strasbourg high-speed line.

Under the contract, Alstom will be responsible for development, design, manufacturing and integration of the Atlas ETCS system into the train control technology, working in cooperation with the trains’ manufacturer Siemens.

Installation work will take place at Alstom’s facilities in Braunschweig and Salzgitter and the company will be responsible for maintaining the system for six years.
