To plug the global shortage of signalling engineers, Sarvepalli (pictured) says there are five key mantras both to attract and retain talent. To attract engineers he suggests that it will be necessary for the signalling sector to nurture talent by getting involved in universities, consider recruiting other industries, have a clear career development path, speed up the decision-making processes, and keep the promises made to candidates.

Sarvepalli says the five key factors for engineers are: hire and focus on the right people; introduce a good system for evaluating performance; assign work meaningfully; offer employees a career development plan; and operate a scheme to reward excellent performance.
