NYCT plans to work with multiple suppliers to install CBTC on subway lines, with Mitsubishi Electric the third CBTC supplier qualified to participate in the modernisation of the NYCT’s signalling system following Siemens and Thales.

To be qualified, Mitsubishi Electric had to verify that its solution meets all of NYCT’s requirements for functionality and safety.

Mitsubishi Electric Power Products was awarded a contract in 2015 to demonstrate interoperability with Siemens and Thales CBTC equipment as part of the Queens Boulevard programme. Following successful completion of the $US 20m test, funded largely by Mitsubishi with a $US 1.2m contribution from NYCT, the company is now permitted to bid on any of NYCT’s upcoming CBTC projects.

Qualification is also expected to lead to opportunities for Mitsubishi Electric to collaborate with NYCT on long-term technology development.
