The locomotives will be converted in phases, beginning with a fleet of 39 locomotives based in the Netherlands.

The upgrade will offer:

  • increased safety through an improved braking curve model
  • better driver information at level crossings
  • a Limited Supervision security system, and
  • detection of position changes when locomotives are switched off.

“ETCS Baseline 3 will reduce complexity and increase interoperability,” says Mr Torsten Lehnert, CEO of Railpool. “Parts of the track infrastructure are no longer required. After this change, we expect advantages for our customers such as higher operating performance, lower infrastructure costs and higher availability.”
