Under the contract Wabtec will supply its Interoperable Electronic Train Management System (I-ETMS) and equip 16 locomotives and 18 driving trailers. The company will also provide signal design and communications, mapping, and system integration services.
Wabtec says the system will be fully interoperable with PTC systems being installed by Class 1 freight railways.
Sounder services carry around 3 million passengers per year on the Seattle – Everett and Seattle – Tacoma routes.
