STADLER has acquired Bär Bahnsicherung as the Swiss manufacturer aims to develop its in-house expertise in signalling and digitalisation.

The manufacturer said in a statement that Bär Bahnsicherung specialises in railway digitalisation while Stadler’s in-house signalling has so far concentrated on equipping rail vehicles with signalling equipment.

The takeover means there will be a single point of contact for customers. Initially this will be for the Swiss market, but the plan is to open up international growth opportunities in the future.

Bär Bahnsicherung has around 130 employees working in planning, development, engineering and construction of equipment to commissioning and safety tests including safety reports. It has its headquarters in Fehraltorf and sites in Oensingen, Olten and Lausanne. Stadler said it will retain the sites and staff.
