A missing link in Bangkok’s metro network was bridged on August 11, when Thailand’s prime minister Mr Prayut Chan-o-cha inaugurated the 1.2km extension of the Blue Line from Bang Sue to an interchange with the Purple Line at Tao Poon.
MASS Rapid Transit of Thailand (MRTA) has confirmed that two consortiums have submitted bids for the public-private partnership (PPP) contracts for Bangkok’s Pink and Yellow line projects, both of which will be developed as monorails.
PRINCESS Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand opened Bangkok’s Mass Rapid Transit Purple Line on August 6 with an inaugural trip on the 23.5km line from Tao Poon to Khlong Bang Phai station in the district of Bang Yai, where the opening ceremony took place.
BANGKOK Mass Transit System (BTS) has awarded contracts worth a total of Baht 10.9bn ($US 305m) for two fleets of metro trains. Siemens will supply 22 four-car Inspirosets while CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles, China, will supply a further 24 four-car trains.
