British government prepares contingency plans for South Western Railway
BRITAIN’s secretary of state for transport, Mr Grant Shapps, told parliament on January 22 that while South Western Railway (SWR) is still meeting its financial commitments under its franchise agreement, contingency plans are being drawn up in case it fails.

Rail Delivery Group proposes franchising alternative
BRITAIN’s Rail Delivery Group (RDG), which represents passenger and freight operators and infrastructure manager Network Rail (NR), has submitted proposals to the Williams Review of the British railway industry which advocate a radical alternative to the existing passenger franchise system.

DfT confirms Arriva disqualification from East Midlands franchise
BRITAIN’s Department for Transport (DfT) has confirmed to IRJ that Arriva was also disqualified from bidding for the East Midlands passenger franchise along with Stagecoach ahead of awarding the franchise to Netherlands Railways subsidiary Abellio.
