CROATIAN prime minister Mr Zoran Milanovic and minister of maritime affairs, transport and infrastructure Mr Sinisa Hajdaš Dončić officially launched Croatian Railways (HŽ) new fleet of EMUs for Zagreb suburban services on October 6.
THE World Bank has approved loan agreements for three independent Croatian railway companies – HZ Passenger Transport, HZ Infrastructure, and HZ Cargo in an agreement signed by Mr Carlos Pinerua, World Bank country manager for Croatia, and Mr Boris Lalovac, minister of finance.
Since it was founded in 2006, Croatian infrastructure manager HZ Infrastructure has struggled to rehabilitate its war-ravaged network. But with the government now turning its attention to rail and tapping into EU funds, the tide appears to be turning.
