Electrification agreed as first step to new German tram-train network
THE Baden-Württemberg transport ministry has approved funding for 15kV ac electrification of the 10.4km Erms Valley Railway between Metzingen and Bad Urach, plus the electrification and expansion, with some new double track sections, of the 21.4km Ammer Valley Railway between Tübingen and Herrenberg.

Freight tram trials planned in Karslruhe
THE German city of Karlsruhe, in collaboration with Karlsruhe Transport (VBK) and Albtal Transport (AVG), has announced plans to begin trials of freight-carrying LRVs and tram-trains by 2022. It is hoped that the initiative will reduce road congestion and pollution in the city.

Karlsruhe breaks ground on light rail extension
A groundbreaking ceremony was held at Egon-Eiermann-Allee in Karlsruhe on April 29 to officially launch construction on the 1.5km extension of tram Line 2 from Lassallestrasse to the Knielingen 2.0 residential development in the northwest of the city.
