TRANSNET, South Africa, has reported a 34.9% decrease in net profit to Rand 3.9bn ($US 241.7m) for the 2019-20 financial year ended March 31, despite a 1.3% increase in revenue to Rand 75.1bn.

Extensive cable thefts and looting halts South African rail services
SOUTH Africa’s commuter rail services have all but ground to a halt following a cable theft epidemic and widespread vandalism that has prevented Metrorail services from operating across most of its network. Almost the entire Metrorail network, which is also partially used by Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) services, has been affected.

Prasa launches bid to acquire additional Afro locomotives
THE embattled Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) has presented a business case to parliament to acquire the remaining Afro 4000 and Afro Dual locomotives built by Vossloh Spain (now Stadler Rail Valencia), which were ordered but never delivered after it was discovered they exceeded the loading gauge on part of the country’s network.
