Metra calls for new designs to replace double-deck coaches
CHICAGO commuter rail operator Metra issued a request for proposals (RFP) on March 20 for at least 200 new coaches, and has called on manufacturers to propose alternative designs that may address its needs better than the legacy double-deck gallery cars that have been used in Chicago for nearly 70 years.

FRA to cancel California high-speed rail grants
THE United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) has announced that the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) intends to cancel $US 929m in federal grants awarded to the California high-speed rail project, and has begun actively exploring legal options to seek the return of $US 2.5bn in federal funds already granted to the project.
