The 34,000th wagon to be equipped under the intelligent freight wagon programme returned to traffic at Seelze yard near Hanover this week.

DB Cargo says it is investing a “high double-digit Euro amount” in the programme, which is due to be completed next year.

The project involves equipping vehicles with telematics modules with GPS and RFID and NFC tags enabling the operator and customers to monitor parameters such as load condition, temperature, and humidity.

Equipped vehicles transmit data when in motion and during events such as starts, stops and impacts.
