SIEMENS Mobility and Everis have been awarded a five-year contract by Spanish national operator Renfe to develop and operate a nationwide intelligent Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platform.

The digital platform will integrate various transport modes including train, bicycle, metro, bus, car sharing and scooter services enabling passengers to identify and book the option that best suits their requirements.

Once completed, the platform will be available in 27 Spanish cities including Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia and Sevilla.

“Our intermodal software platform and digital solutions will help deliver one of the world’s most ambitious MaaS projects,” says Mr Andre Rodenbeck, Siemens Mobility CEO Rail Infrastructure.

Renfe conducted trials with its "RaaS" platform on the Barcelona - Madrid corridor at the end of 2019, and said then it would issue a final tender to develop and create the final platform. Renfe predicts the platform will attract a minimum 650,000 new rail passengers who will generate 1.8 million new trips in five years. This is expected to increase train ticket sales in the main corridors by up to 4% and provide up to €156m extra income.

Siemens Mobility will provide the core technology for the system while Everis will supply the system integration and support for commercial operation including marketing and legal aspects.
