THE RiVier joint venture of Netherlands Railways (NS) and the urban rail operators in The Hague (HTM) and Rotterdam (RET) have appointed Siemens Mobility subsidiaries Hacon and eos.uptrade to build a national Mobility as a Service (MaaS) integrated travel planning platform by the autumn.
The platform will be designed as an open system which can be linked to existing apps operated by NS, HTM and RET. The three partners are keen for other transport operators to join to provide a multi-modal platform.
“The pandemic is changing our behaviour,” says RET director, Mr Maurice Unck, on behalf of RiVier. “We work, learn and travel more flexibly, in time, place and chosen means of transport. That is why we are investing in the best travel options for consumers right now. We lower the threshold to easily plan, book and pay for a trip with multiple modes of transport.”
“Smart applications that can integrate and coordinate different modes of transport make the idea of seamless travel from the first mile to the last a reality,” says Mr Andre Rodenbeck, CEO rail infrastructure at Siemens Mobility. “Having the ability to choose from the full spectrum of mobility options to plan, schedule and pay for trips, significantly improves the travel experience and enhances overall quality of life.”
