The UIC says the introduction of the OSDM platform, which is targeted for April 2021, is one of the first steps to providing seamless train ticket sales and after-sales processes.

OSDM is a standard for ticket sales, reservations and price distribution, and is a project jointly managed by the UIC, operators and ticket vendors. OSDM combines the previous full-service model and net tariff model projects to provide comprehensive and open interoperability on the sale of train tickets.

The OSDM Platform will be provided by Hit Rail as a cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS). The platform’s architecture will enable the ongoing introduction of future UIC services related to the distribution of tariffs and price data.

The technical components of the solution are deployed in a fully virtualised, enterprise-grade cloud environment managed by Hit Rail. The contract covers the provision of the platform and services from April 1 2021 to December 31 2025.

Once launched, the new service will become an important foundation for pan-European passenger travel by distributing international travel tariffs and prices among operators’ distribution systems and making them available to third party vendors such as Global Distribution Systems (GDSs) around the world.
