Alcatel-Lucent supplied equipment for the project and was aided by British mobile phone operators Vodafone, EE, O2. The project encompassed the installation of a fibre-optic GSP-P retransmission system that supports 2G and 3G services to mobile phones, enabling passengers to make calls and use the internet while travelling through the tunnel on Eurotunnel or Eurostar services.

The system is similar to that installed by Alcatel-Lucent in partnership with French mobile operators Orange, SFR, and Bouygues Telcom in the France - Britain tunnel in July 2012 in time for the 2012 London Olympics.
