CFL awarded the contract to Kapsch in 2016 with a view to completing the project in early 2017.

The GSM-R system installed by Kapsch comprises an all-IP solution RDN.core, built on the third-generation partnership project (3GPP) release 4, RDN base stations, railway transmission networks and dispatcher solutions. The system provides secure communication between train dispatchers, drivers and station staff, and includes roaming agreements with neighbouring railways in France, Belgium and Germany.

Under the contract, Kapsch will maintain the network until 2021.

“With the completion of the implementation of the project in Luxembourg, we closed the last white spot of GSM-R coverage in the Benelux countries,” says Mr Kari Kapsch, CEO of Kapsch CarrierCom.
