SLOVAKIAN infrastructure manager ŽSR has awarded a consortium led by Kontron Transportation and including AŽD Praha and Elektrizace Zeleznic Praha a €40m contract to install GSM-R on the line from Varín to Košice, Čierna nad Tisou and the border with Ukraine.

The project is funded by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and will support the future introduction of ERTMS on the line, which is the key west-east railway link in Slovakia and part of the TEN-T network’s Rhine-Danube Corridor.

The consortium partners will develop, design, integrate and implement all GSM-R components. Work will start this month and will take approximately two years to complete.
