The northern part of the line has conventional signalling and Thales is installing ETCS Level 2 on the southern section from Cumaovasi to Tepekoy.
TCDD intends to extend GSM-R and ETCS Level 2 north to Bergama and south to Selcuk covering a total distance of 188km. Tenders will be called next month for the line to Selcuk and next year for the northern section to Bergama. The signalling will be designed for 250km/h operation although trains will be restricted to 160km/h.
This is Huawei's second GSM-R contract in Turkey. It is currently installing the system on the 330km Eskisehir – Balikesir line, while Alstom is equipping the line with ETCS Level 2. This project will be completed next year.
