Fugro, which is based in The Netherlands, says the contract is a long-term partnership that will see its train-mounted Rila solution used to provide highly accurate rail infrastructure information. Additional survey services will be provided by British-based Severn Partnership.

The Rila technology was first introduced in 2015 and provides rapid, route-wide acquisition of data combined with value-added imagery and video as a desktop tool. It is certified by NR and has already been used to deliver data covering more than 594km of renewals sites in England, Scotland and Wales, resulting in fewer manual track inspections and accelerated project delivery times.

Deployed to conduct surveys on a route-by-route basis, Fugro says Rila will also allow NR to utilise survey data of track sections between renewal sites for other route project requirements.
